Step into a lush, tropical oasis in the heart of Roundhay Park
Tropical World is a charming, family-friendly indoor rainforest nestled within the scenic Canal Gardens of Roundhay Park—just a short bus ride from Leeds city centre. It comprises a series of climate-controlled glasshouses, each offering a glimpse into a different tropical habitat—from swamps and waterfalls to deserts and nocturnal jungles .

Butterfly House: Wander under free-flying butterflies, koi and terrapins in a swamp-like environment—plus tiny crocodiles peeking from the foliage .
Aztec-themed Aquarium: Discover vibrant poison dart frogs, axolotls, red-bellied piranhas, stingrays, seahorses and more in a beautifully immersive tank .
Rainforest Floor & Canopy Houses: See waterfalls, tropical fish, reptiles, free-flying birds and cotton‑top tamarins in lush surroundings .

Originally opened as a conservatory in 1911 and transformed into Tropical World in 1988, it was later upgraded in 2015 with modern aquarium enclosures and a fresh café area . It’s officially licensed and a proud member of BIAZA, hosting one of the UK’s largest tropical plant collections outside Kew Gardens .
